Banksy
b 1974, Bristol UK
Banksy is a pseudonymous street artist whose real name and identity remains unconfirmed. Active since the 1990’s, much of his street art is executed utilizing stencilling. His works of political and social commentary have appeared on streets, walls and bridges throughout the world. Banksy's work grew out of the Bristol underground scene, which involved collaborations between artists and musicians. Banksy produced a very small number of prints over the years. His concentration centres around his public "installations" of street graffiti which can only be resold by removing the wall that they were painted on. Banksy is credited by some as bringing urban art into the mainstream.
